Suburban Streetscape Improvement & All-Season Market
Addressing the needs of the Brighton Community by creating design solutions to improve pedestrian safety and interaction with Twelve Corners in Brighton, New York. Enhancing the area further, this project also reimagines the Brighton Farmers Market into a new all-season space.

Twelve Corners Master Plan
This suburban site was the focus of an eight-week project in a site-focused master's studio. After carefully analyzing the site as a class, we were tasked with devising a solution to slow down traffic leading up to Twelve Corners, improve pedestrian interactions, and infill the streetscape in pairs. My partner and I approached this task by pulling the sidewalks back to the buildings as much as possible, adding malls to South Winton Road and Elmwood Avenue, and condensing this portion of Monroe Avenue to two lanes with intermittent street parking. For infill, while we wanted to maintain a focus in the center, we also created destinations down the street to give pedestrians a reason to walk around in the area. We also increased tree canopy coverage for added shading, wind buffering, and sound buffering. In the center intersection is a woonerf where pedestrians and vehicles co-exist. In this center, restaurants and retail have been added, and an underutilized gazebo has been replaced with a large fountain to encourage increased use of this central area.

Brighton Farmers Market Site Plan
After collaborating on the Twelve Corners master plan and deciding the best location to relocated the Brighton Farmers Market, the rest of the project was entirely individual. My approach focused on lines of site, natural light, and interacting with the street and sidewalk. To enhance the interest of passersby, I decided it would be best to create permanent storefront spaces to allow select vendors an opportunity to attract more visitors to the market.
